Viper by Bex Hogan - Book Review

Goodreads Synopsis

He will make me a killer. Or he will have me killed. That is my destiny.

Seventeen-year-old Marianne is fated to one day become the Viper, defender of the Twelve Isles.

But the reigning Viper stands in her way. Corrupt and merciless, he prowls the seas in his warship, killing with impunity, leaving only pain and suffering in his wake.

He's the most dangerous man on the ocean . . . and he is Marianne's father.

She was born to protect the islands. But can she fight for them if it means losing her family, her home, the boy she loves - and perhaps even her life?

Review When the girls over at Bookstaholics Anonymous announced that they were doing a impromptu readalong for Viper I knew I had to join in. I had first recieved this book in FairyLoot's March 2019 box and from then onwards it sat on my shelf with the promise of me reading it soon.

Oh my god, am I thankful that these girls encouraged me to read this. I absolutely loved it. I was hooked from the very beginning and quickly found myself completely immersing myself into the world that Bex Hogan has created.

The characters in this book are so well written and I honestly found myself loving and rooting for Marianne. She's a strong willed, independent protagonist who has flaws and that makes her more realistic and relatable. I also really loved Grace and how loyal she was to Marianne, not to mention she was an absolute badass!

I found the story to be so swift and fast-paced that my only qualm with this book is that there wasn't enough of it. I was so captivated by the different isles and this story as a whole that I just wanted more. It was so hard for me to put this book down with all it's twists and turns! I just needed to know what happened next and this was a consensus in our group chat for the readalong!

Did I mention that they girls at Bookstaholics Anonymous also managed to get Bex Hogan in for a chat on Instagram?! It was so lovely talking to her and hearing about her process of writing the book! I honestly cannot wait for Venom (which I have pre-ordered!)

If you're looking for a quick paced YA fantasy with pirates, betrayal and romance then this is the book for you. Go pick it up! You won't regret it.
