So summer is here and if you're anything like me, it's when I tend to binge read romance novels. I think it has something to do with the exotic places, the forbidden romances or the hate to love trope (which I am an absolute sucker for).
I know I'm always hunting for good contemporary novels so I thought I would recommend you guys some books I think are perfect for this summer. I will link each book's Goodreads page so that you can read the full synopsis.
Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - This book revolves around the one of the biggest bands in the seventies and their rise to fame. It's written in an interview format and I honestly recommend listening to the audiobook for this. The audiobook is done with a full cast and you honestly feel so consumed in the story.
Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren - I've actually reviewed this book on my blog here. Josh and Hazel have known each other since college and couldn't be anymore different. Hazel is an animal lover who knows she can be quite a lot to take while Josh is calm and very mature. The two decide to set each other up on blind dates which turn out horrendously. This is a book full of sexual tension and definitely recommend to the older audiences (there is some graphic scenes!)
The Flatshare by Beth O'Leary - I absolutely adore this book. Tiffy is looking for somewhere to live after her boyfriend kicks her out and she stumbles across an ad which is posted by Leon. Leon works night shifts so only needs his flat during the day. It's cheap and Tiffy is desperate so agrees. The two have never met yet share a bed, Tiffy keeps to her side and Leon keeps to his. The only communication the pair have is through post it notes left around the flat. It's such a different concept and I couldn't help falling in love with it.
Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch - Lina's mother had one wish before she died, for Lina to spend the summer in Tuscany getting to know her father. Lina doesn't want to be there, her father hadn't been there the first sixteen years of her life so why now? When given a journal her mother used to keep Lina is suddenly thrust into a world of secret romances and hidden bakeries. Lina spends the summer discovering her mother's past alongside the ever-so-charming Ren. This book is the perfect exotic holiday book, even if you sit at home reading it!
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson - I could have easily listed every single Morgan Matson book for this but I wanted to narrow it down to one. In this book, Andie has her summer planned out; she's got an amazing internship waiting for her and has the most amazing friends she could ask for. When her father has a scandal at work being a politician's daughter is not all it seems to be. Andie loses her internship and decides she can't spend the summer in the same house as her dad, who has hardly ever been around, and gets a job as a dog walker. From there she meets Clark and the summer doesn't seem to be turning out as bad as she thought. It's a coming of age story with romance thrown in, it's everything I wanted and more.
To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han - Lara Jean has a box under her bed with letters to each boy she's ever had feelings for. from the boy she had her first kiss with to her sister's ex-boyfriend Josh. One day she discovers that somehow these letters have been mailed to all her crushes, causing them all the confront her about them. Lara Jean has to learn to deal with them all face to face and she soon realises that something good might actually come out of these letters being sent. This book series is the perfect read and has you hooked from the very beginning.
Fight or Flight by Samantha Young - This book is definitely aimed at a more mature audience. Ava Breevort is flying home after burying her childhood friend but due to a cloud of volcanic ask travelling overseas all her flights are delayed. Her last attempt to salvage the journey back home to Boston is ruined by an arrogant Scotsman Caleb Scott who steals the last first class ticket. During their layover they bump into each other again which somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava has ever had. That's all it was meant to be until Caleb shows up in Boston. Enjoying their physical connection Caleb suggests they carry it on while his in town and Ava agrees. When the possibility of Caleb's stay to become permanent Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings or give into them when she has no idea whether the stubborn Scot will take the same risk with his heart. This book is extremely steam and the tension between these two is something that will keep you reading until the very end.
Anything written by Sarah Dessen - I honestly tried to narrow this down to one but simply couldn't. For the last six years I have spent a part of my summer reading a Sarah Dessen book and it's what I plan to do this summer with her new book. Sarah has a way of writing that hooks you in and before you know it you've finished the book and are desperate for another. I honestly recommend anything written by her.
I hope this post has been helpful in figuring out what contemporary romance books to read this summer!
If you have one that I haven't recommended let me know! I'm always looking for a good book!
