Goodreads Synopsis
If faking love is this easy... how do you know when it’s real?
When her partner of over a decade suddenly ends things, Laurie is left reeling—not only because they work at the same law firm and she has to see him every day. Her once perfect life is in shambles and the thought of dating again in the age of Tinder is nothing short of horrifying. When news of her ex’s pregnant girlfriend hits the office grapevine, taking the humiliation lying down is not an option. Then a chance encounter in a broken-down elevator with the office playboy opens up a new possibility.
Jamie Carter doesn’t believe in love, but he needs a respectable, steady girlfriend to impress their bosses. Laurie wants a hot new man to give the rumour mill something else to talk about. It’s the perfect proposition: a fauxmance played out on social media, with strategically staged photographs and a specific end date in mind. With the plan hatched, Laurie and Jamie begin to flaunt their new couple status, to the astonishment—and jealousy—of their friends and colleagues. But there’s a fine line between pretending to be in love and actually falling for your charming, handsome fake boyfriend...
Review
This is my first Mhairi McFarlane book and it will not be the last!
I absolutely loved this book and McFarlane’s writing style just captivates you and wants you reading more. I could not put this book down and I am so gutted that I haven’t read any of her previous books!
I really loved these characters, especially Laurie who is not only struggling with the breakdown of her relationship but being a woman in a very male orientated law firm. I loved the friendship between Laurie and Emily, showing how important good friendships are in life. Jamie turned out to be a lot different to how I imagined him in the beginning, and I couldn’t help but falling in love with his character and his family.
I love a good fake dating trope and even though I knew how the book was going to end I whole-heartedly recommend this to everyone! This is a light-hearted, fast paced read that will have you hooked from the first page. It’s a story that values friendships and finding yourself, on top of that it’s an incredibly realistic book with relatable characters.
