FairyLoot - June 2020

About FairyLoot and my journey as a subscriber…

FairyLoot is a monthly subscription box based in the UK run by a small yet passionate team. The boxes focus solely on fantasy novels with a different theme each month. The boxes includes 5-6 carefully selected goodies along with a Young Adult or Young Adult crossover book.

I have been subscribed to FairyLoot since 2017 and my first ever box was their one year anniversary box. I remember opening that box and falling in love with it immediately. Over the years I’ve subscribed to other boxes provided by different companies and none have compared to the service that FairyLoot provides.

The customer service that is provided by them is above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced and that is just the tip of what FairyLoot provides. Each month you can read along the book of the month with one of the members of the team and can discuss the chapters on their community page with other subscribers. It honestly makes you feel like part of a family and I love it.

The theme for June was A Different Kind of Magic So let's have a look at what was inside!

Please be aware that from here there may be spoilers if you have not yet received your box!

There was two books in this month's box and the first one was The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna which has a beautiful foiled cover and sprayed edges. This book isn't actually out till 2021! Synopsis Sixteen-year-old Deka lives in fear and anticipation of the blood ceremony that will determine whether she will become a member of her village. Already different from everyone else because of her unnatural intuition, Deka prays for red blood so she can finally feel like she belongs.

But on the day of the ceremony, her blood runs gold, the color of impurity--and Deka knows she will face a consequence worse than death.

Then a mysterious woman comes to her with a choice: stay in the village and submit to her fate, or leave to fight for the emperor in an army of girls just like her. They are called alaki--near-immortals with rare gifts. And they are the only ones who can stop the empire's greatest threat.

Knowing the dangers that lie ahead yet yearning for acceptance, Deka decides to leave the only life she's ever known. But as she journeys to the capital to train for the biggest battle of her life, she will discover that the great walled city holds many surprises. Nothing and no one are quite what they seem to be--not even Deka herself.

The second and the main book of the month is Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee and this edition has an exclusive cover, artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket which was designed by @arz28 and is signed by the author. We also received a beautiful author's letter with artwork by @arz28. Synopsis Sirscha Ashwyn comes from nothing, but she’s intent on becoming something. After years of training to become the queen’s next royal spy, her plans are derailed when shamans attack and kill her best friend Saengo. And then Sirscha, somehow, restores Saengo to life.

Unveiled as the first soulguide in living memory, Sirscha is summoned to the domain of the Spider King. For centuries, he has used his influence over the Dead Wood—an ancient forest possessed by souls—to enforce peace between the kingdoms. Now, with the trees growing wild and untamed, only a soulguide can restrain them. As war looms, Sirscha must master her newly awakened abilities before the trees shatter the brittle peace, or worse, claim Saengo, the friend she would die for.

My Thoughts on this month's box...

I really loved this box and all the items included! All of them were of a great quality and a lot of thought went into the items selected.

I've recently just read Blood Heir and honestly love this art print so much! I think it's so beautiful and exactly how I imagined the characters. I also really loved how adorable the tea strainer was! It's a shame I don't drink tea ahah!

I'm also really excited about reading these two books as I've heard nothing but amazing things about them!
