Goodreads Synopsis
In the Cyrilian Empire, Affinites are reviled. Their varied gifts to control the world around them are unnatural—dangerous. And Anastacya Mikhailov, the crown princess, has a terrifying secret. Her deadly Affinity to blood is her curse and the reason she has lived her life hidden behind palace walls.
When Ana’s father, the emperor, is murdered, her world is shattered. Framed as his killer, Ana must flee the palace to save her life. And to clear her name, she must find her father’s murderer on her own. But the Cyrilia beyond the palace walls is far different from the one she thought she knew. Corruption rules the land, and a greater conspiracy is at work—one that threatens the very balance of her world. And there is only one person corrupt enough to help Ana get to its core: Ramson Quicktongue.
A cunning crime lord of the Cyrilian underworld, Ramson has sinister plans—though he might have met his match in Ana. Because in this story, the princess might be the most dangerous player of all.
Review
Blood Heir was selected as Bookstaholics Anonymous's read-along and I jumped at the chance. I have heard nothing but good things about this one and I've been wanting to read it ever since I got it in an Illumicrate box!
This book...God I don't know how to review this one because honestly there were times were I physically threw my book to the end of my bed and there were other times where I just never wanted it to end.
Blood Heir is a fantastic young adult fantasy that completely takes hold of you and you never want it to let go. I was in love with the world building, the characters, the magic system and the entire plot as a whole. But most of all I love that its an Anastasia retelling. As a child growing up Anastasia was my favourite film and I've always been so intrigued by the story. I've been wanting a good retelling and this one ticked all the boxes.
Fast-paced and full of action this book has become one of my all time favourites. I absolutely love Zhao's writing style and quickly fell in love with this story. I'm so glad that this book was finally published. I could go on and on about this book and how much I loved it but I don't want to spoil it and honestly I want you all to go read it.
